Would-be AG Eric Dinallo is touting a recent New York Times story about lawmakers trying to slim down in advance of campaign season that highlighted his exercise regimen and weight loss.

“I’ve been traveling all across our state listening to voters talk about their expectations when it comes to their elected officials and their priorities,” Dinallo wrote in an e-mail to supporters that bore the subject line “Literally Running for Office.”

“I’ve campaigned in 56 counties and met with thousands of New Yorkers. The time on the road can be difficult on one’s diet and exercise, but I’ve managed to keep at it and, yes, I’ve lost a good bit of weight in the process.”

“…I’m glad the New York Times chose the above photo, because it literally shows the commitment I’ve made to run as hard as I can.”

The photo in question appears after the jump, thanks to a tech-savvy reader.

I recently interviewed another lawmaker quoted in that same story, Sen. Craig Johnson, who spoke about his struggle to stay away from ice cream and also insisted his effort to drop some pounds was more about health and less about politics.
