NRCC Gets On The Global Bandwagon
The NRCC is the latest to try to capitalize on the $2 million settlement between Global Strategy Group and Democratic candidates, slamming Rep. Scott Murphy (NY20) for refusing to sever ties with the polling/consulting firm.
“Scott Murphy and his Democrat colleagues’ corruption problem is an embarrassment to the constituents they are supposed to represent and has made a mockery of the ethics codes they once pledged to follow,” said NRCC Communications Director Ken Spain.
“After promising to ‘drain the swamp’ and sweep corruption out of Washington, numerous Democrats are now under investigation. Murphy’s tie to this new scandal with Global Strategy Group threatens to throw the Democrat caucus in further disarray. With Election Day quickly approaching, Murphy is sure to feel the consequences of his broken promises in November.”
The Global issue seems to have died down somewhat, in part because everyone from Murphy to Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand to AG hopeful/Nassau County DA Kathleen Rice has remained loyal to the firm. (Basically, everyone except Cuomo, who used Global for his successful 2006 AG bid but insisted to reporters that he has had “no relationship” with them since).
That didn’t stop the NRCC for compiling a list of the firm’s clients, which includes a host of elected officials both inside New York and outside its borders, and campaign contribution recipients.
Needless to say, that list is considerable.
