‘Beam Me Up!’ (Updated)
Here’s the most hysterical exchange that took place during today’s Red Room show. It came at the moment when Gov. David Paterson was trying to put the Senate and Assembly leadership on the spot about why they can’t simply vote the budget he proposed up or down.
Paterson put the question to Senate Democratic Conference Leader John Sampson first. The Brooklyn Democrat, after a prolonged pause, responded by stealing a line from Senate Minority Leader Dean Skelos, saying slyly: “We want conference committees, governor.”
To which Skelos replied: “Oh Scotty, beam me up.”
(UPDATED: Upon close review of the tape – and a call from the minority leader’s office – it has been determined that the Trekkie in question is actually the governor, not Skelos, which actually makes a lot more sense).
