Former Senate Majority Leader Joe Bruno isn’t exactly keeping a low profile following his sentencing this afternoon.

Bruno first held a brief press conference, telling reporters that he is “very unhappy with the result here,” and “very optimistic, as most lawyers in the United States are” that the theft of honest services law under which he was charged will be overturned by the US Supreme Court.

The veteran former Republican lawmaker said he doesn’t believe he has anything to apologize for, adding he’s “proud of my public services, proud of what I did.” He also referenced the millions of dollars he pumped into the Capital Region, adding:

“The public money that was expended was public money that was going to go somewhere and I’m proud that I was able to influence and balance where it went…I would do those things again in terms of the dollars that we all gave all over the place.”

Bruno then strolled across State Street – media pack in tow – pausing to shake the hand of a driver who was stopped at a red light. He then went into Jack’s Oyster House – a favorite hangout of his.
