Cuomo Announcement Speculation
So far, we know this much for certain: AG Andrew Cuomo is going to finally announce he’s running for governor some time before the state Democratic Party’s convention kicks off in Rye next Tuesday.
That’s just four days from now, and we still have no inkling as to exactly when, where and how Cuomo’s debut will take place.
That’s not for lack of trying. Reporters (including myself) are scrambling to try to pick up the tiniest detail about the AG’s big day.
The Cuomo camp, which has been leaking like a sieve about the soon-to-be candidate’s policy positions and plans to ask that legislators pledge in advance to support his agenda, has so far remained extremely mum on this topic.
As far as I can tell, no Cuomo supporters have yet received a call asking them to be at such-and-such a place at such-and-such a time to provide the adoring backdrop that generally appears at campaign kick-offs, which kind of makes you wonder….what if there’s no actual event?
In other words: What if Cuomo announces in cyberspace via video?
He would be following the lead of Barack Obama (although he followed that up with an in-person announcement in Springfield, Ill.), Hillary Clinton and many other candidates – including his reported preferred AG contender, Nassau County DA Kathleen Rice. And he would be able to avoid asking questions from reporters – again – until he arrives to claim his crown at the convention.
Just a thought.
