Former Rep. Vito Fossella brushed off a battery of questions posed by NY1′s Shushannah Walshe about whether he is indeed plotting a comeback in NY-13, but, as she astutely noted, he didn’t flat out deny that, either.

“My plan is to enjoy this great parade put on by some wonderful citizens of this great city and great country,” Fossella said.

When asked what he thinks of the rumors that he might try to re-take the seat now held by Democratic Rep. Mike McMahon and whether he is personally behind them, Fossella replied:

“I don’t know, but I am very humbled and touched and blessed that I was able to represent the people of Staten Island and Brooklyn all these years. But as I said today it’s about honoring our nation’s heroes.”

This exchange took place at the Great Kills Memorial Day Parade. If you listen closely, you can hear Fossella loyalist Sen. Andrew Lanza chant: “Run Vito Run!”

Walshe reports Lanza sang Fossella’s praises, adding that he would back the ex-congressman if he does join the race.

“It’s very simple for me,” Lanza explained. “Vito has served in Congress. He’s got a great record, the people know what he did for this district from Brooklyn to Staten Island.”
