Governor: People Will Be ‘Very Surprised’ By School Board Votes
Gov. David Paterson issued a prediction of sorts today, during a gaggle with reporters in New York City following the dedication of a new park.
When asked by a reporter if anything would change in coming days to make a budget deal a reality, he quickly suggested a tidal wave of voter disapproval for the upcoming school board elections.
“I think there are going to be school board elections around the state tomorrow. And people will be very surprised when the public, not the legislature, not the Governor, the public votes down those plans,” Paterson continued.
“Saying you can’t spend money you don’t have. Saying that it is time to make the tough decisions and get back to prosperity. We are not going to do it by borrowing, or taxing, or putting off problems to tomorrow, which we need to address today.”
Here is the link to the audio of the entire question and answer period. The governor’s comments on the school elections is the second to last question.
