A Democratic Senate staffer irate over the GOP’s claim of censorship at the hands of the majority when it comes to taxpayer-funded mail sent this photo of a piece recently dropped on behalf of Sen. Ken LaValle.

“They would have never let us get away with this when they were running things,” the staffer fumed.

LaValle, whose district is in Suffolk County, was first elected to the Senate in 1976. He is on the Democrats’ target list this fall and is being challenged by corporate fraud lawyer Regina Calcaterra, who recently made mailers a campaign issue.

Senate Democratic spokesman Travis Proulx did not mince words when he sent the following statement:

“Either the Republican propaganda machine has no idea what resources their members are using, or they are again purposefully misleading the public about the greedy and pathologically political manner in which they ran this body.”

“Any time (former Senate Majority Leader) Joe Bruno was criticized, our members postage or printing allotment would be shut off; they denied us access to government websites (serviced by the same firm handling the Republicans’ political websites); Senate Republicans even went so far as to force several of our members to operate without district office space for months at a time.”

“Their hypocrisy and extraordinarily misplaced self-righteousness (prior to and following their failed power grab) is well documented. While they may have shorter memories these days, everyone else sees through their pathetic attempt to re-write history.”
