Veteran Assemblyman Jack McEneny was kind enough to stop by the Capital Tonight set and explain how he orchestrated today’s Red Room sit-in at the Governor’s office.

McEneny, who is known as a Capitol historian, often gives tours of the storied structure. So, when he walked a group of 20 Assembly colleagues into the Red Room, security outside the Governor’s office thought he was just showing his friends the architecture, and art of the room.

During the interview, McEneny also disclosed that he, and his colleagues, purposely didn’t inform Speaker Sheldon Silver of the action.

“We deliberately didn’t tell the speaker,” McEneny said. “That would put the speaker in a bad position one way or the other.”

“And it was better that we went down there, and expressed our utter and complete frustration, disgust with where things were going. The speaker, there was no point in burning his bridges with the governor.”
