Sen. Ruben Diaz Sr.’s outspoken opposition to same-sex marriage has made him target No. 1 of the Marriage Equality New York PAC, which released this Web video today that urges support of the Bronx Democrat’s primary opponent, Charlie Ramos.

Ramos has made his support of gay marriage a focus of his campaign, but it’s unclear whether that will be sufficient to knock Diaz Sr. from his perch.

The senator has a history of frustrating his majority conference colleagues – particularly with all his “no” votes on key legislation like the budget extender bills. But he remains popular in his district and has the ability to tap into grassroots religious support through his church.

MENY isn’t the only PAC that has Diaz Sr. in its crosshairs. Fight Back NY, another committee dedicated to elected pro-gay marriage senators, is also agitating against the senator.
