Hawkins Invokes Boss Tweed
Green Party Candidate for Governor Howie Hawkins is the latest to call for a series of debates with the various candidates running for Governor. Today, he specifically challenged Carl Paladino, holding a press conference outside the Republican nominee’s office building in Buffalo.
During his opening remarks, Hawkins also took a shot at Andrew Cuomo. He says the Democratic nominee’s policies don’t differ that much from Paladino.
“All they have said in general terms is that they want to slash and burn the state budget, and leave the people with less services and less jobs,” Hawkins said.
Hawkins went on to suggest both Cuomo and Paladino are not true reformers, as they present themselves. And he specifically took Paladino to task for his past campaign contributions, and the rent he collects from the state from his various properties in Western New York.
“He [Carl Paladino] plays the inside game like the fat cats do. They give to both sides. So no matter who wins, they win. Our political system is like Boss Tweed use to like. He use to say, you can vote for anybody you want, as long as I get to pick who the candidates are.”
