Pataki Talks bin Laden

This is the luckiest guy in the history of New York politics. I still couldn’t tell you what he stands for or what he accomplished.

Yeah, he’s so lucky he beat an INCUMBENT Democrat icon, Mario Cuomo, and the single most popular African-American elected official in New York State, Comptroller H. Carl McCall.

He’s so ‘lucky” he lowered taxes, repeatedly, with an overwhelming Democrat majority in the Assembly and just a bare majority in the Senate.

Then, he used his ‘luck” and gave poor and working class New Yorkers the chance to send their children to mostly superior charter schools intsead of leaving them in the cesspools of the public system (and, in the process, forced the public system to get much better because of the competition.) All that with a Democrat Speaker and Assembly Education Committee that might as well have been wholly owned subsidiaries of the UFT.

And don’t forget Pataki’s “luck” implementing one of the most comprehensive welfare reform packages in the country and, likely, the finest and most cost-effective health care program for uninsured youngsters in the entire country. Or the 800,000 private-sector jobs that came to New York State on his watch.

And being so “lucky”, he was the only governor in the nation that kept spending BELOW the rate of inflation.

You’re right; Pataki was “luck”, the way the Senecas used to say: “Luck is what happens when preparation meets opportunity.”
