[Upon hearing the news that Speaker Sheldon Silver thinks it is time to raise the legislators pay, the New York Post editorial board fired back saying “First, stop stealing” and suggested they should get a pay raise when they go 2 years in a row without a member being indicted.]
Maybe the alarmists are correct and the End of the World is actually at hand. I find myself agreeing 100% with the Editorial Board of the New York Post! Really, Shelly? Do you really need more money? Seriously? 99% of the State's residents are much worse off and you think you and your part-time misgoverning elite (I include both parties in that) should get more money? Are you kidding? If so, it's a cruel joke.

[the tradition of bipartisan seating..]

One year does not make a tradition. It's an empty gesture given the hyper-partisan, disrespectful language emanating from the GOP.

[Senate's 63rd District...]

Look for it to be undersized compared to NYC/Downstate districts. If true, this district and the rumored addition of Eastchester to remnants of the Oppenheimer SD, potentially increases GOP margin or maintains it. IMHO, SCOTUS decision likely reduces federal judicial intervention, if the covered VRA Sec 5 jurisdictions pass muster (which is likely).

Last nite’s debate
******************
The audience was subdued, unlike the Lettermen-type audience in SC.
Newt could not demagogue a fight with the media, as Brian Williams kept the questions out of the wannabes’ personal lives. In the first 15 minute mano-to-mano battle between Newt and Mitt, Newt actually was off stride; subdued.
Mitt scored points.Except for Paul, the other three are caught in a time warp of the old Cold War.
Newt wants to overthrow the Cuban Castro brothers, using covert and overt means.
Isn’t that what the Kennedy brothers and Ike also wanted?
Only Paul had the courage in Florida to support the end of the Cuban embargo.
The others were catering to the Miami Cuban GOP voters.Mitt released two years of tax returns this am, and they show a 14-15% effective capital gains tax rate; and an income of close to $20 million per year.
It will become an issue in the general election if Mitt is the nominee.
The issue will be tax fairness; equitity; and the K Street DC lobbyists success in getting tons of tax loopholes written into the tax code.As someone wrote, Mitt’s problem is with the tea partiers and the vast middle class. At least we can be assured that Mitt will not be on the “take” as POTUS.
He has no need to take cash envelopes in the Oval Office. Finally, does Newt wear a hairpiece?
Last night, his hair was combed different, lower on his head, and the hair part smacks of that of a rug.Do we want a POTUS who wears a rug?

[The Senate’s 63rd district will likely stretch from Amsterdam to Kingston.]

I don't oppose a 63rd district per se, but wouldn't you think you'd have to put that district in a place where the population has been growing? Has suburban Albany been growing at the same rate New York City or Long Island has? I know there are a few pockets of upstate that are still growing (Finger Lakes come to mind), even though WNY continues to drag the rest of the region and state down, but is that area one of them?
