Hank Morris, the disgraced political consultant of Alan Hevesi now in jail for his role in the massive pay-to-play pension fund scandal, was denied parole this week.

A transcript of the parole hearing provides a window into his life in prison. Among the highlights:

  • Morris claims he didn’t know the scheme to provide hedge funds and other investors with an inside track to the pension was illegal and didn’t even realize he was being investigated until he read about in the newspaper. Morris says he “made the mistake of getting licensed as a securities broker.”
  • Morris says he is tutoring inmates and may even help them get their GEDs. Included in his tutoring are lessons on fractions and how many members of Congress there are.
  • Morris has read nearly 120 books so far and goes to the gym up to six times a week. He also goes on 2 hour walks.
