NY1/YNN Marist Poll: 72% Of NYers Support Minimum Wage
While state lawmakers continue to debate a raise in the minimum wage the public is showing overwhelming support for the idea in our new NY1 / YNN Marist Poll. 72% of adults in New York say raising the minimum wage is a good idea. Only 25% are opposed to it. That’s slightly up from when we asked the question in January, when 69% favored it and 27% said it was a bad idea.
The poll also looked at voters opinion on the economy. A slim majority of 51% think the worst of the state’s economic conditions are behind us. 44% feel that the worst is yet to come. It’s not all optimistic news though. When asked if they feel New York is still in a recession, 67% said yes and only 30% said no.
“Although New Yorkers are somewhat optimistic about the economy, their faith in the recovery remains fragile,” says Dr. Lee M. Miringoff, Director of The Marist College Institute for Public Opinion.
