The National Republican Campaign Committee sought to tie Rep. Kathy Hochul to today’s U.S. Supreme Court ruling today that upheld the major provisions of the 2010 health care overhaul, including the controversial individual mandate provision.

“In order to regain control of their healthcare, Western New York families must replace Kathy Hochul,” said NRCC spokesman Nat Sillin. “The court decision means the only way to stop ObamaCare is to defeat Democrats, including Hochul, who have defended ObamaCare at every turn.”

Hochul is running in one of the most Republican Congressional districts in New York state, but was able to defeat Assemblywoman Jane Corwin in an upset special election primarily over Republican plans to change Medicare.

Hochul is still hammering away on that theme, quickly releasing a statement on Tuesday pushing Republican opponent Chris Collins to explain his position on the Paul Ryan budge proposal, an issue on which the former Erie County executive has been rather vague on.

For her part, Hochul released a statement that was not exactly celebratory.

“Today’s Supreme Court ruling provides much needed clarity in an important national debate on the appropriate role of the federal government in the delivery of healthcare. While I was not in Congress to vote on the Affordable Care Act, I have always believed, and continue to believe, that the law is far from perfect, and I remain concerned about the high cost of implementing the law. That is why I have worked to roll back many of its most troubling provisions, including the financially unsustainable CLASS Act, the Medical Device tax, and the Independent Payment Advisory Board, which could result in the rationing of Medicare.
