The state Republican Party transferred $250,000 to Queens Senate hopeful Eric Ulrich’s campaign to unseat Democratic Sen. Joe Addabbo, according to his July campaign filing.

The cash infusion accounted for a good chunk of Ulrich’s early fundraising, which totaled $430,761 in contributions. He reported $385,444 in the bank.

In addition, he transferred $12,772 from his city council campaign coffers, the filing shows.

He launched his Senate campaign back in April, after initially indicated he wasn’t interested in running. The money from the state GOP is dated April 25, a day after he officially launched his campaign.

Ulrich is clearly viewed as a rising star within the New York Republican Party, hence the generous cash transfer for a committee that has struggled to match resources with the state Democrats, who enjoy a larger enrollment advantage.

He’s also hired John Haggerty, the consultant convicted of swiping $750,000 from Mayor Michael Bloomberg’s re-election campaign, as a volunteer.

As reported earlier on this blog, Senate Majority Leader Dean Skelos also sent $7,500 to Ulrich’s nascent effort.

Ulrich is also the chairman of GOP presidential hopeful Mitt Romney’s campaign for New York City.
