Emboldened by the Supreme Court’s health care ruling last week, the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee is launching a coordinated robocall campaign against 10 House Republican incumbents, including three New York representatives currently in swing districts.

The robocall is being made in the districts of Reps. Chris Gibson, Nan Hayworth and Ann Marie Buerkle.

Broadly speaking, Democratic incumbents have shied away from taking about the measure, preferring instead to discuss bread and butter local issues and spin the economic recovery. But DCCC’s call may be a sign Democrats are actually going on the offensive when it comes to the law and the highlighting of the more popular aspects.

From the script (this is the Gibson version of the call):

Hi, this is Louise from the DCCC calling with a warning. Congressman Chris Gibson has gone Washington. After taking more than $58,000 from insurance companies, Congressman Gibson wants to put insurance companies back in charge of our health care and let them:

- deny coverage to people with pre-existing conditions like asthma, heart disease and cancer,
- cut back your health benefits,
- throw some kids off their parents’ insurance,
- and roll back prescription coverage for seniors.

Congressman Gibson already voted for deep cuts to Medicare to fund more tax breaks for millionaires and corporations. He even voted to protect the government healthcare plan for Members of Congress that is funded with your tax dollars. But now he could vote to let insurance corporations cut back your health benefits.

Congressman Gibson is looking out for him and the big insurance corporations that fund his campaign, not the middle class.

Call Congressman Chris Gibson at (518) 610-8133 and tell him to stop looking out for congressional perks and special interest campaign contributors.

The calls begin this week, according to DCCC news release.

Both the DCCC and NRCC are clearly focusing hard on upstate New York and its potential to shift the balance of power in the House of Representatives. As Liz noted earlier today, the House Majority PAC and SEIU are both dumping $20 million into 38 markets, including $205,000 in Buffalo area where Rep. Kathy Hochul is facing what’s expected to be a stiff challenge from Republican Chris Collins.
