The Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee is taking aim at New York Republicans in close House races for taking cash from Staten Island Rep. Michael Grimm, who remains under federal investigation for possibly receiving illegal contributions.

And in a separate news release, the DCCC goes after Long Island House hopeful Rany Altschuler for taking help from embattled Rep. Vern Buchanan.

In an individual repelases targeting Reps. Ann Marie Buerkle and Chris Gibson, along with Republican challengers Maggie Brooks and Matt Doheny, the DCCC takes them to task for accepting money from Grimm’s political action committee.

Here’s a typical example from the release hitting Buerkle:

“Congresswoman Ann Marie Buerkle should immediately return the $2,000 that she took from this scandal-plagued Congressman who is currently under FBI investigation, or explain to New York voters why she is supporting this kind of corruption,” said Josh Schwerin, Northeast Press Secretary at the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee. “Congresswoman Ann Marie Buerkle owes it to voters to get rid of this tainted cash immediately or else she is embracing the worst kind of Washington corruption.”

Democrats have kept the pressure up on Grimm, whose seat they believe can be flipped by Democratic challenger Mark Murphy this year.

Grimm has been cleared by the Office of Congressional Ethics of any wrongdoing. But he remains under investigation by the FBI and the U.S. Attorney’s Office receiving illegal donations and pressured a rabbi to donate to the campaign.

Buchanan, meanwhile, is also under a federal probe. The Florida congressman and NRCC chairman is under scrutiny for his campaign finance and business practices.

“By accepting campaign cash raised by a scandal-plagued fundraiser who is facing multiple federal investigations, Randy Altschuler is embracing the worst in Washington corruption,” said Jesse Ferguson of the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee. “If he doesn’t reject and return this money raised by NRCC Finance Chairman Congressman Vern Buchanan, Randy Altschuler is telling voters he supports the corruption of this Republican House of Scandal in Washington. Randy Altschuler is sending a clear message that he embraces unethical behavior and broken politics by accepting this tainted campaign cash.”
