Gov. Andrew Cuomo is in the “New York City area” the same week as the Independence Day holiday, but that hasn’t stopped him approving a slew of bills that renamed highways, roads and bridges around the state.

The bridges are being named mostly after veterans and other local luminaries in Jamestown, Chemung and Wyoming counties and elsewhere.

In the Capital Region, Cuomo approved the renaming of the Route 9P bridge to the Saratoga County Veterans Memorial Bridge, a measure that was backed by Sen. Roy McDonald and Assemblyman Jim Tedisco.

“With New Yorkers celebrating the nation’s birthday this week, it is important to pay tribute to the countless men and women who fought throughout the years for the freedom we enjoy today,” Governor Cuomo said. “The newly renamed Saratoga County Veterans Memorial Bridge will give area residents and visitors another opportunity to honor the sacrifice and bravery of our veterans. These service men and women have exemplified the loyalty and dedication that made America the great nation it is today, and I applaud the bill sponsors for their work to recognize these heroes.”

A full list of the bridge renamings is after the jump.
