IG: PSC Workers Took $7G In Gifts
The acting state inspector general’s office released a report earlier this morning that found workers for the state Public Service Commission received $7,000 worth of meals and golf from entities under its regulatory authority.
The gifts were spread out over the course of about eight years.
But the report from the IG’s office notes that PSC workers seemed unaware of a 2008 change to the state ethics law that tightened the rules for accepting gifts. The report says PSC workers are
“Laws and policies are in place to ensure that New York State business is conducted without compromise by personal interests and improper influence,” Acting IG Catherine Scott said. “Individuals charged with these crucial responsibilities have a statutory duty to avoid any conflicts of interest. By accepting these gifts and disseminating confidential information, these employees breached this duty.”
