Deputy Senate Majority Leader Tom Libous spent more than $25,000 in campaign cash on lawyers right after the Joint Commission on Public Ethics informed him that he was the target of a potential investigation.

Libous has denied any wrongdoing after Anthony Mangone, a disbarred attorney, claimed in testimony that the Binghamton Republican had pushed a politically connected law firm in Westchester County to hire his son.

The filing shows that Libous’ campaign retained the Albany-based law firm DerOhannesian & DerOhannesian (Paul DerOhannesian is a legal analyst for YNN and Capital Tonight).

Overall, Libous has $763,037 in cash on hand after raising $659,765 in the last six months. He raised $411,556 in contributions.
