Sampson Explains Thruway Toll Hike Opposition

Business groups have asked Comptroller Tom DiNapoli to audit the Thruway Authority before the agency can implement a 45 percent toll hike for large trucks. Unshackle Upstate’s Brian Sampson explains the concerns.

Again, New York State citizens are having money taken from them without a weapon… however the Thruway Authority, who is accountable to no one, will take the cash. Plus, it’s really a tax on those with the least ability to pay: those who buy the foods and goods at our local stores and markets. It is shameful, immoral, unethical, but legal in the formerly great Empire State.

How are Pennsylvania and Ohio able to run their portion of Route 90 with zero tolls? Has anyone from the Thruway gone to those states and asked? Of course not… the Authority knows they are on the gravy train.
