Hours after poll conducted for GOP Rep. Chris Gibson was released, Global Strategy Group also has a survey for his Democratic rival, Julian Schreibman.

While Gibson’s Public Opinion Strategies survey showed him leading by a margin of 49-40 lead in the new portion of the district, the Global Strategy Group survey conducted for Schreibman gives the incumbent a 10-point advantage overall.

There’s some spin in here, including the Schreibman’s low name-ID in the district: He is at 19 percent, but this is seen as a potential for growth.

Gibson, meanwhile, is at 46 percent name recogination in the redranw Congressional district, which features more Democrats than the old 20th CD.

“The survey shows that Gibson is vulnerable on numerous issue areas,” says Global pollsters Jefrey Pollock and Jeffrey Plaut. “In fact, following negative messages against Gibson, his support collapses to 33%, while Schreibman’s vote share climbs to 47% following positive messages for him and negative messages against Gibson.”

They also do not discount the presidential election providing a good Democratic turnout for Schreibman this year as well.

The poll was conduct from July 18-22 and has a margin of error of 4.9 percentage points.
