AFL-CIO Endorses, Gillibrand And All-Dem House Slate
The New York State AFL-CIO today announced it was endorsing an all-Democratic House candidates in New York.
The group also announced it is backing U.S. Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand, who is running for a full term against Republican Wendy Long.
“What happens in Washington DC has a real and tangible impact on the lives and economic well being of working men and women throughout the state. Union members cannot afford to sit idly on the sidelines. The Labor Movement will engage our members at the local level to make sure hard working New Yorkers, not corporate special interests, decide who represents us in Washington,” said union President Mario Cilento.
The endorsements are not a major surprise. The labor gruop had initially backed several Democrats in key battleground races across the state, including Reps. Tim Bishop and Louise Slaughter, as well as challengers Sean Patrick Maloney, who is challenging Rep. Nan Hayworth and Nate Shinagawa, who faces Rep. Tom Reed.
