The Federal Election Commission last year fined a political action committee tied to now-Assembly candidate Kieran Lalor which as of last month remains unpaid.

Lalor, one of several candidates for a Hudson Valley House seat in 2008, had launched the Iraq Veterans for Congress PAC. In April 2011, the FEC sent a letter to PAC Treasurer Christopher Covucci telling him that the PAC had filed a 24-day late financial report.

The committee was hit with a $2,310 fine that remains unpaid.

In August 2011, a final determination was handed down that the PAC violated the law through the late filing, according to the FEC Enforcement Query System.

An email to the Lalor campaign this morning was not immediately returned, but a response will be posted if it’s given.

Lalor faces Republican Rich Wager in a primary for the newly drawn 105th Assembly District.

Update: Here’s a response from the Lalor campaign.

Afghanistan & Iraq Veterans for Congress has a strong track record of helping veterans get elected. The group supported two successful veteran Congressional candidates in 2008 and ten successful veteran Congressional candidates in 2010. Afghanistan & Iraq Veterans for Congress is backing another strong slate of candidates in 2012 including the Republican US Senate, candidate in the swing state of Ohio.

Like many committees, Afghanistan & Iraq Veterans for Congress has been
fined by the Federal Election Commission. FEC fines are common. For
example, recently Democrat Barrack Obama has been fined, Republican Marco Rubio has been fined and Independent Joe Lieberman has been fined.

AIVC is an all-volunteer organization. The group had a volunteer doing the filings who got sick and died. During her sickness some of the filings were late and subsequent to her passing we had late filings while attempting to obtain records and finding a replacement. AIVC is in full compliance with FEC regulations.
