NARAL Pro-Choice New York Endorses House Slate
NARAL Pro-Choice New York released its list of House endorsements this afternoon, backing nearly every Democrat in a contested election this Novemeber.
The group singled out challengers Dan Maffei, Sean Patrick Maloney, Mark Murphy and Julian Schreibman, all of whom are considered potential pick ups for the Democrats this year (Maffei is lumped in with catch-all “new round of challengers” though he is an ex-congressman who faces Rep. Ann Marie Buerkle in a grudge match).
New York is considered something of a battleground when it comes to control of the House of Representatives this year, given that districts were drawn by a federal magistrate as opposed to partisan state lawmakers.
“We have witnessed an unprecedented onslaught of attacks, and we are proud to stand behind our pro-choice champions in the House who have stood firm and fought back,” Miller said. “We are also eager to support the new round of candidates – such as Dan Maffei, Sean Patrick Maloney, Mark Murphy, and Julian Schreibman – who are all bravely taking on anti-choice incumbents whose central priorities include robbing women of basic health care and undermining our ability to participate fully in society.”
The debate over social issues like abortion and womens reproductive rights has flared up this election season, as Democrats push a so-called “war on women” and the culture war battle over Susan G. Komen pulling support for Planned Parenthood.
Republicans writ large have sought to play down conservative social issue views in an effor to make the election a referendum on the economy.
