Opposition to Adirondack Land Purchase

Over the weekend, Governor Cuomo announced a big addition to the Adirondack Park with the purchase of 69 thousand acres. But Fred Monroe of the Adirondack Park Local Government Review Board and Brian Towers of the Adirondack Association of Towns & Villages have some concerns about the $50 million buy.

Isn’t it strange how the state has no money, but we find money to purchase more forest land? Further Lake George has a serious problem with invasive species, but little help is forth coming from the state. No wonder we have little faith in our elected officials!

If I recall correctly, the nature conservancy bought this land with assurances the state would buy some of it from them.
Also, doesn’t reducing the amount of commercial forest drive up the price of timber, hurting the paper mills but helping the loggers (if the mills do not close)?
