Schumer: Senate In Danger Of Turning Tea Party
U.S. Sen. Chuck Schumer, appearing on MSNBC’s “Morning Joe” earlier today, said the Senate’s Republican caucus is in danger of being taken over by the tea party should more candidates like Texas GOP candidate Ted Cruz succeed.
“If the tea party gains strength it means two things: it means the Republican Party will be the minority party for a long period of time if dominate the Republican Party,” Schumer said.
The New York Democrat added that the gridlock in Washington will only worsen if more candidates who refuse to compromise are elected.
“Second, guess who the most unhappy man is in Washington this week? Mitch McConnell. He’s got another articulate smart person whose job it will be to obstruct the Senate. This will be very, very bad for the Senate it will be like the House of Representatives. McConnell will have as many headaches as John Boehner does. This is not good for the country and it’s certainly not good for the Republican Party. But it’s certainly not where the American electorate is at.”
Schumer’s comments come as Boehner is making a swing through upstate New York this weekend on behalf of Republican House candidates, starting tonight in Lake George, where he’ll be appearing at a fundraiser for Matt Doheny.
