Cuomo On The 47 Percent
It wasn’t as fiery as his speech before the New York delegation breakfast in Charlotte, but Gov. Andrew Cuomo told reporters that the comments made by Mitt Romney at a closed-door fundraiser in which he knocked the “47 percent” of the country that he says doesn’t pay taxes, receives government aid and will vote for President Obama, were misguided.
“I think it was indicative of his philosophy which isn’t my philosophy,” Cuomo said. “I think people from time to time — many people — require government assistance. And I think the basic concept is you provide somebody with government assistance, you improve their lives and the life of their family and that improves the community.”
He added that the notion that people need assistance for housing, food and medical care shouldn’t be viewed “as a negative.”
