Brian Ellner, the high-powered and super-networked advocate who helped usher through New York’s same-sex marriage law, told Liz in an interview that he has “no doubt” Secretary of State Hillary Clinton supports same-sex marriage and that she’ll announce her new position soon.

“I have no doubt that Hillary Clinton supports marriage equality,” Ellner said in an interview set to air this evening on Capital Tonight. “I’m sure that we will hear from her on the question soon.”

Hillary Clinton is yet to fully endorse same-sex marriage.

President Obama has said he backs gay marriage rights, as do Vice President Joe Biden and Secretary of Education Arne Duncan.

Former President Bill Clinton has said he backs same-sex marriage rights after being pushed by his daughter, Chelsea.

Yet, Clinton, is who not at the convention this week, has not said she supports marriage rights for same-sex couples as of yet. A plank in the party’s platform is supporting same-sex marriage.

“I think at the time she was serving as secretary of state,” Ellner said, explaining that Obama had yet to announce his own support until Biden’s comment on Meet The press forced his hand somewhat. “It was a difficult position to be in.”

Hillary Clinton is not joining a second-term Obama administration, should one come to pass. She has said she’s exiting politics, but speculation continues that she is running for president in 2016.
