Speaking of political reform, a blogger has suggested Constitutional amendments that will help bring our system into the 21st century:

"Amendment 28. Popular election of president and vice president. The president and vice president shall be elected by a majority of the people voting on the national election days. In the event a candidate receives a plurality, but less than 40% of the popular vote cast, a runoff election between the top two candidates shall be held within two weeks of the election.

Amendment 29. National Election Days. Beginning with the ratification of this amendment, national voting for president and vice president, and for such other congressional offices, shall be held every four years on the first Saturday and Sunday of November, following the first Friday, and that such days shall be deemed national holidays.

Amendment 30. Universal voter registration. The United States shall support a system of universal registration for all citizens. This system shall identify and otherwise register those citizens 16 years and older through electronic means, and such system shall have the ability to amend the place of residency for all eligible voters.

Amendment 31. Eligibility for office. Any person who has attained the age of 35 years and who has been a citizen of the United States for at least 18 years shall be eligible to serve as president and vice president.

Amendment 32. Eligibility to vote. No citizen of the United States shall be denied the right to vote in any federal election based upon their place of residence. The Congress shall have the power to establish this precept by appropriate legislation

Amendment 33. Federal support for Amendment 33. Federal support for elections. The treasury shall provide sufficient monies to fund candidates for every federal office, being those of president, vice president,, and member of Congress. No other monies from any other source shall be spent in the general election for any federal office. The Congress shall establish this precept by appropriate legislation."
You can google this at "its time to form a more perfect union"

Now here's a reform platfom that transends left and right; red and blue.

A POTUS candidate making a speech on the above goals may win in a landslide.

I wonder if "Big Brother" Obama thinks Shelly Silver should stay as Speaker ?

Has anyone asked him what he thinks of that smash hit "Sex in The Assembly" ?

Maybe some reporter should inquire ?

BTW The NYCGOP say Shelly must go and wants the "FEDS" to investigate not bad only three weeks late.

Check out the NY Post story

GOP to feds: Probe Silver... allegations against fellow Assembly Democrat Vito Lopez. ...approval of a secret $103,080 settlement in June to two Lopez staffers who alleged they were ...

Shelly could have a "REAL RACE" on his hands and if the GOP Fat cats open up their Louis Vuitton checkbooks and fund the race watch out.

Plus once SNL starts LIVE I am sure they will have a field day with "Sex in The Assembly"

Since it is right in their back yard and it has all the elements they need for many SHL skits.

I wonder who will play Shelly Silver and Vito Lopez ?

Mitt Romney meets the press, or at least NBC's David Gregory
*************************
I watched Mitt being interviewed by Gregory this morning.
Mitt is articulate, and makes his arguments well.
Agreeing with his positions may be another matter.
Mitt says it will take 8-10 years to eliminate the deficits, and begin to bring down the debt.
That may be the most honest statement he made this morning.
When asked how he can reduce all tax rates by 20%, and still decrease the deficits/debt, his expensive pants are on fire.
Like Paul Ryan on ABC's Sunday with George Steph, MItt argues that you eliminate tax credits/ deductions, and then flatten the tax rates.
What tax credits do you eliminate?
..the mortgage interest deduction? won't happen!!
And if you just eliminate this deduction for the uppper income folks, you get very little tax revenue.
And the billionaires, like the Koch brothers and the Wal-Mart Waltons, are pouring big bucks into the Fall race to make sure it doesn't happen.
. the charitable deduction...not going to happen.
.the deduction that employers take for employee health insurance?
Let's get real!!
Doing that would motivate millions of businesses to drop their insurance coverage.
Mitt says he will repeal Obamacare!!
But that has to be done through Congress, and will only happen if the GOP flips the Senate.
And then MItt clarified that he likes some of the favorite parts of Obamacare, like kids staying on their parents' policies; and he would make sure that is on any new, smaller health care law.

How is that for having it both ways?

I haven't been called "amazing" since high school, and even then, it was kids engaging in joking put downs.
I wonder if anyone else got this email from Michelle?
Michelle tells me she, and Barack, felt my energy in Charlotte.
They channeled by up karma, so to speak!

Gordon, thank you for an amazing week.

Barack and I felt your energy up there.

But we can't let that energy fade -- because in just 60 days, voters will decide who gets to serve in the White House for the next four years. So every single one of us has got to pull together to finish strong.

I know you feel the urgency: Already this week, supporters like you have made more than 500,000 grassroots donations to build this campaign. So if you're fired up, let's keep it going -- let's see how many people we can get to show their support by the end of the day.

Can you chip in $5 or more to stand with Barack today?

Barack's got something that the other side doesn't: more than 3 million grassroots supporters like you -- and together we're going to win this election the right way.

If, in 2004, John Kerry was as animated, and charismatic, as he was in his DNC speech, would he have beaten Bush 2?
What do you all think on this one?
You can see his DNC speech on YouTube.

The "mother of all reconciliations" and the Senate races
*********************************
Major Garrett's warning of the possible "mother of all Senate reconciliations" in Jan., if the GOP gets 51 seats, is enough to keep us awake evenings.

This super reconciliation can change the direction of our country for a decade.

The concern is that the GOP needs over to win 4 more Senate seats to flip this upper house.

The policy tsumbi that will come with this mother reconciliation is not favored by the majority of Americans.
It would create a country that is not favored by most of us.
For that reason, me thinks the American voters will not allow a flip of the Senate.

Our own NY Sen. Gillibrand appears to be safe. There is little sign that Wendy Long will create an upset.

If you are concerned about this mother of all reconciliations, then perhaps giving assistance to other Senate races would be beneficial.

Perhaps a few dollars to Eliz. Warren in Ma. Her race still appears to be a toss up, but her consumer-support, progressive voice is needed.

Perhaps a few dollars to Sen. Clair McCaskill in MIssouri; or Tester in Montana; or Tammy Baldwin in Wisconsin; or Brown in Ohio;Nelson in Florida; Kaine in Va; and even real underdog Bob Kerrey in Neb.

Major Garrett,National Journal, don't bore me with describing the Senate "reconciliation" process.
******************
Experienced and knowledgeable Major Garrett was interviewed by Jeff Greenfield on Need to Know this week.
He warned all of us to be ready for the "mother of all (Senate) reconciliations" this January if the GOP gets 51 votes in the Senate.
I talked back to my rather small flat screen TV, demanding that Major stop boring me with this arcane Senate stuff. like reconciliations.
But his warning needs to be taken seriously.
Reconciliation is when major policy, bills, can pass the Senate with only 51 votes if the policies, bills have budget implications.
And reconciliation does not allow filibusters that can be used to stop the process.
So what is the "mother of all reconciliations" that may happen in Jan., if the GOP wins 51 seats in the Senate.
It would change the course of our country, and national policy, for all of us. It would move us in a direction that is the radical right wing, the tea partiers, political wet dream.
It could extend the Bush 2 tax cuts, even for the very wealthy, and make them permanent; repeal Obamacare in one vote; putting Medicare in the red by 2016; voucherize Medicare; block grant Medicaid to the states, cutting this important program by a third over the next decade; enact the draconian Ryan budget cuts to domestic programs, including education aid, Head Start, food stamps, earned income credit, Planned Parenthood, PBS subsidy , on and on.
This mother of reconciliations could, in one grand bill, change the entire direction of our country for a decade.
So we need to pay attention to the important Senate races throughout the country.
Our own Gillibrand appears to be safe, so send some dollars to Eliz. Warren in Ma.
More on the other Senate races later.
