The deep-pocketed tea party super PAC FreedomWorks is endorsing Republican Senate candidate Wendy Long, her campaign this afternoon announced.

In a statement, Long name-checks a list of Senate candidates FreedomWorks has endorsed, many of whom are raising tea party stars.

“I’m proud to accept the endorsement of FreedomWorks joining the ranks of Jeff Flake (Arizona), Connie Mack (Florida), Ted Cruz (Texas) and all the other endorsed candidates in the fight to win back the United States Senate. Senator Gillibrand, Harry Reid and the Democrats in the U.S. Senate have brought America to the bring of financial disaster threatening to fundamentally undermine individual initiative and freedom. With the help of FreedomWorks we will win in November.”

The Republican, a judicial activist and lawyer, is popular in conservative advocacy and media circles but has struggled to gain traction so far in polls and in fundraising. Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand, a Democrat running for a full-six year term, last reported $10.5 million in cash on hand and is expected to easily outraise Long.

Meanwhile, Long also sought earlier in the day to crticize Gillibrand’s first campaign ad, which is aimed at the upstate television markets and focuses on manufacturing.

“She’s filling the airwaves with rhetoric about a better New York, but she increases taxes, spending, and regulation, crushing the ability of manufacturers to establish themselves and grow,” Long said.
