Rep. Nan Hayworth is fundraising off the results of the most recent Siena College poll that showed her with a 13-percentage point lead over her Democratic opponent Sean Patrick Maloney.

The same poll Hayworth’s campaign cites in a fundraising appeal this afternoon would likely show a closer race given that the Working Families Party candidate Larry Weissmann was included in the survey (Weissmann was a place holder candidate for the winner of the Democratic primary and Maloney is expected to have the WFP line in November).

Maloney’s campaign went as far as declaring the race close to being tied, arguing that all of those saying they would vote for Weissmann would flock to the Democratic candidate, a rather large and dubious assumption.

Hayworth’s fundraising letter also says the Maloney campaign is outspending her in a “desperate” attempt to “elect a carpetbagger to Congress.”
