The campaign of Sen. Roy McDonald released a brief statement this evening that was light on details, saying only that it was assessing “all available options.”

McDonald, one of four GOP senators last year to approve same-sex marriage, is most likely at this point going to lose the Republican line to Saratoga County Clerk Kathy Marchione as the absentee ballot count in the primary race shows him falling irrevocably behind.

“The McDonald campaign is considering all available options at this time. Senator McDonald is very proud of his career along with the accomplishments he’s achieved during his time in office and he is honored to participate in the democratic process. We plan to have a decision about the campaign’s future by the end of this week or the beginning of next week,” said McDonald spokesman Mike Veitch.

McDonald still has the Independence Party line heading in to November and Marchione will also have Conservative Party line’s Row C.

The Post-Star reported this week that McDonald’s campaign does indeed plan to move forward in to November, but campaign officials for McDonald did not return calls or emails seeking to confirm that.

Sen. Stephen Saland, the other pro-gay marriage Republican to back the measure in 2011, was confirmed the winner of the Republican line in an even closer primary against Neil Di Carlo, who retained the Conservative Party line.
