There are nearly 400 delegates from New York who are descending on the Democratic National Convention in Charlotte this week.

Not all of the state’s party officials have arrived yet and some aren’t due until later in the week (Attorney General Eric Schneiderman, for instance, isn’t expected here until late Tuesday or early Wednesday morning).

But that doesn’t mean it’s tough finding Democrats at the Doubletree Hotel. Or the Renaissance Marriott.

That’s right: New York’s delegation has an overflow hotel for both delegates, alternates and press because there’s just so darn many New Yorkers at the DNC. The state delegation is second only to California in size.

There are also two more hotels, one that’s over the border in South Carolina.

The breakfast this morning wasn’t just in a banquet room that’s seen one too many high school proms. It was in an air conditioned tent. A separate air conditioned “hospitality” tent has been constructed in the hotel’s courtyard.

And then there are the party luminaries.

To be sure, Republicans from New York featured party stalwarts like former Gov. George Pataki, ex-Sen. Al D’Amato and former Mayor Rudy Giuliani.

But Democrats have the clear advantage when it comes to the heavy hitters: former President Bill Clinton, Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, U.S. Sens. Chuck Schumer and Kirsten Gillibrand (who is speaking to the Iowa delegation as well).

Sen. Tom Duane, who is on his last convention as a sitting state senator, said he was looking forward to seeing the rank-and-file delegates, as well as the bold-faced names.

“I know all of them as human beings, so that’s great,” he said.
