The campaign of Democrat Justin Wagner is out with a 56-second web video that tries to dillute the strong public stance Sen. Greg Ball has on hydrofracking.

Ball, one of the most outspoken Republicans against the controversial natrual gas extraction process, sponsors a bill that tightens regulations for defiling a local water supply.

But the Wagner campaign is pointing to some exemptions (or loopholes, as Wagner calls it) in the bill’s language.

The video notes that the meaure carves out exemptions for municipalities, agriculture and indsutrial entities that dump chemicals lawfully.

Of course, since high-volume hydrofracking is under review by the Department of Environmental Conservation, the idea that fracking is included in the loophole for now is a little moot.

Update: Ball’s campaign has its response.

“Let it be clear, the only connection between terrorists and frackers is that Wacky Wagner’s firm defends them both. Sen. Ball’s water defilement bill is a pro-active step to protect New Yorkers from terrorists who seek to contaminate our reservoirs with a biological agent. It is also a bold step against those seeking to contaminate the environment, and the Senator welcomes all constructive feedback to make it even tougher,” said Joe Bachmeier, Press Secretary for Sen. Ball’s re-election campaign. “That said, on the eve of 9/11, we are shocked that Wacky Wagner would diminish the memory of 9-11 and the issue of Homeland Security in general with an ill-conceived political stunt of this nature.”
