Sen. Lee Zeldin’s political action committee is backing Republican Assemblyman George Amedore’s bid for the 46th Senate District, a newly formed district in the Albany area.

Amedore is considered a rising star for the Senate Republicans (as is, for that matter, Zeldin, a Suffolk County lawmaker).

Zeldin, who is running for a secon term, announced earlier this year he was forming the PAC with $50,000 of his own campaign money.

The PAC is aimed at supporting pro-business and fiscally conservative candidates.

Amedore is seeking to represent the so-called “63rd” Senate district, created in the redistricting process.

“Assemblyman George Amedore has been an effective pro-business State Assemblyman who will continue his record of cutting taxes, eliminating wasteful spending and creating jobs when he becomes a State Senator,” said Senator Zeldin. “NextGenLNY is proud to endorse Assemblyman Amedore and I know that he will be an outstanding addition to the New York State Senate.

Update: Cecilia Tkaczyk campaign spokeswoman Kayla Lott responds.

“It’s not surprising that an extremist like Lee Zeldin has given his support to a fellow tea party radical,” she said. “George Amedore has blocked raising the minimum wage, led the charge against fair pay for women and supported corporations that outsource jobs from our community. George Amedore is wrong on the issues, is wrong for this district, and is wrong for New York State.”
