The Tappan Zee Bridge is not falling down. It is "functionally obsolete", not "structurally deficient" according to the National Bridge Inventory. So why are we blowing $6 Billion to build an oversized boondoggle that can't pay for itself and will lead to even more cars flooding our roads?

Please Governor Cuomo: come up with another issue to use for the 2016 presidential race. Here's a few ideas:
(1) Reactivate and upgrade the west-of-the-Hudson train lines. A fast ride into Penn Station is doable, and far cheaper than the TZ Bridge boondoggle.
(2) Invest in our rustbelt cities like Syracuse, Utica, Rome, Schenectady, etc.... A little money can leverage a lot of private investment, and pay for itself better than the TZ Bridge boondoggle.
(3) Let the MTA make a lot more bus lines BRT. Its cheap, and shortens bus rides dramatically. And will make lots of neighborhoods in Queens (remember Queens?) much "closer" to downtown.

Caught the beginning and the end of the VP debate. Looked to me like Biden held his own and then some with a that smug little twit, Ryan. Somebody should wipe that arrogant smirk off his face.

I loved how Ryan kept contradicting himself on whether he and Romney would send MORE troops in to Afghanistan etc. He did it about a half dozen times in the last half-hour of the debate. It didn't bother him one bit.

BTW, are Ryan and Romney planning on withdrawing from the UN? That's the only solution to Ryan's childish world view of how to deal with other nations.

Romney and Ryan are kids trying to act like grown ups. They don't jack about foreign policy and the need to DEAL with other countries. You can't just order everyone else around. The again, Romney-Ryan don't know jack about much of ANYTHING, if you ask me, other than how to rob the poor and give to the rich. They're like Robinhood...only in reverse. It's disgraceful.

Equally disgraceful is how many ignorant Americans we have. They believe the nonsense that Romney-Ryan are peddling. That's what happens to a society that spends all of its time watching TV, 99.9% of which is utter nonsense. A sh*tty public school system breeds gullible citizens, too, if they even bother to vote. We have become a nation of self-lobotomized citizens.

I can only hope that there are enough Americans left who know bullsh*t when they hear it. Romney-Ryan need to be relegated to the dust bin of history. Pronto.

Why is it that money is no object when it comes to something downstate (i.e. Cuomo's political base), but Cuomo insists on squeezing blood out of a turnip when it comes to Upstate? Why must we build a new bridge RIGHT THIS MINUTE and in a half-assed fashioned (per the mass transit advocates) to boot? Read my lips: WE CAN'T AFFORD IT, ANDY.

Unless the bridge is going to fall down any second, WAIT until we have more money. Figure out how to pay for the damn thing before building it. Most importantly, FIRE the TWO "communications" guys guys that have already been hired specifically for the bridge. Why in the hell does a construction project need its own press shop? That's the epitome of the right-wing stereotype of a Democrat -- spending money like a drunken sailor on things that we can't afford.

Get a grip on yourself, Andy. It isn't pretty watching you lose your marbles.

How come no one in the media is discussing that $75+ million in Thruway tolls this year are being pilfered to support the disaster of Canal Corporation?

Since Gov. Mario Cuomo signed a law in 1992 or 1993, over $1.2 BILLION in Thruway tolls have been stolen from the users of the highway system to support non-toll roads and the Canal Corporation.

There is plenty of cash to build the new TZ Bridge. However, since NYS likes to play shell games with the money, the cry of poverty rings hollow for me.
