State Comptroller Tom DiNapoli this morning released a report on the state of the state’s budgetary health, finding that New York spent $6,859 per person in 2012.

Overall, state spending has grown 15 percent since 2008, even if New York’s overall spending in 2011-12 was down.

“State policy decisions in the past two years have made budgetary balance a primary goal, but challenges still remain,” DiNapoli said in a statement. “The challenge is to build on the progress made and put New York State on a truly sustainable fiscal path.”
