Periodically the Republicans try to privatize Social Security, and basically end Medicare. When they get called out on it they dissemble and say that they are "just trying to preserve the programs for the future" and that Democrats are engaging in "Mediscare" tactics. But since the Republicans were overwhelmingly opposed to both programs in the first place, why should we believe them? They have no credibility on this topic.
