The House campaigns are in a sweaty, last-minute push for campaign cash as this reporting quarter ends.

And Rep. Nan Hayworth is trying to grab the attention of supporters with a fire-and-brimestone message: “We could lose.”

That was the subject of a fundraising appeal sent over the weekend, in which she warned of outside influence helping her Democratic opponent, Sean Patrick Maloney.

“We have a real fight on our hands.

The left-wing billionaire George Soros and his son are pouring millions of dollars into the Hudson Valley to try to silence my independent voice and vote in the House of Representatives.

We could lose this race–even though I’m doing all I can, with a very dedicated and hardworking team, to continue spreading our positive message throughout the Hudson Valley.”

To be sure, Hayworth is running in one of the more contest House races around New York.

The appeal is in some ways similar to when House Speaker John Boehner warned on Fox News that the GOP could lose control of the chamber.

The math never really seemed to be there on that possibility, but it had an important impact on lighting a fire under Republican donors: Wallets flew open.
