The Senate rumble (cont.)
********************************
I watched the 3rd debate re the Nebraska Senate race, with Bob Kerrey (D) v. Deb Fischer (R).
This was somewhat embarrassing as the lovely lady, Fischer, is out of her league...seeming unqualified to be a US Senator.
Kerrey was polite, but skewered her positons with skill.
Although polling does not show Kerrey winning, this could change in the next 4 weeks.
As I asked re Wisconsin's former gov. now running for Senate Tommy Thompson, why does Kerrey want to return to DC and the Senate?
If he loses, as likely, he will settle into Nebraska for the remainer of his life.
Deb Fischer is, in many ways, a tea party extremist.
While supporting the Ryan budget, repealing Obamacare, and the other more extreme positions of the national GOP, she also believes that humans are not the major cause of climate change.
Kerrey asked her if she was prepared to tell her grandchildren in the future why she refused to do anything about the eco-system and climate change.
Kerrey's approach to this $700 billion "cut" in Medicare under Obamacare is one that our own Sen. Gillibrand should use in the Oct. 17th Skidmore debate with Wendy Long.
Kerrey asked Fischer if she wants to cut federal spending, why would she oppose reducing the rise in costs of Medicare?
Why she would oppose this $700 billion curb on Medicare cost inflation when not doing it will put Medicare in the red by 2014.
Curbing the cost will keep Medicare in the black until at least 2022.
Nebraskans would be foolish not to send Kerrey back to the Senate.
