Log Cabin Republicans Back Hayworth, Hanna And Carvin
The pro-gay rights GOP organization Log Cabin Republicans is endorsing Reps. Richard Hanna and Nan Hayworth, along with Joe Carvin.
Hanna has become one of the more moderate members of the New York Republican delegation, blasting what he saw as “extremes” in the GOP.
Carvin, who is running against longtime Westchester Rep. Nita Lowey, staunchly blasted his primary opponent, Jim Russell, for writings in a fringe magazine that were critical of interracial marriage. Carvin himself is married to a black woman.
Hayworth, meanwhile, is running for a second term in a Hudson Valley House district and has sought to display her moderate bonafides as often as possible. Interestingly enough, Hayworth is running against Sean Patrick Maloney, who is openly gay.
