Schumer Backs IDCer Carlucci
Is today the day that everyone re-affirms they’re Democrats?
First you had Gov. Andrew Cuomo’s backing of state Sen. Joe Addabbo in a crucial battleground race for the Senate minority.
And this morning, U.S. Sen. Chuck Schumer, the longest-serving Democratic elected official statewide, is endorsing state Sen. David Carlucci for re-election.
To be clear, this isn’t a matter of Schumer reasserting his Democratic bonafides (hardly!), but Carlucci, one of four members of the Independent Democratic Conference, which has worked well with the Senate GOP majority.
“Senator Carlucci has always put middle-class families first and has a strong record of getting things done,” said Senator Schumer. “Hudson Valley residents know they have a fighter in Albany who is a real leader on the issues that matter to working families and seniors. I am proud to endorse his candidacy for State Senate as he continues to bring New York into the 21st century.”
Carlucci has raised a staggering amount of cash for a non-majority member freshman. His most recent campaign-finance filing shows he has $275,120 in the bank.
