Yet Another Anti-Hayworth Ad Pops Up
A group calling itself “Friends of Democracy” is ramping up its independent expenditure effort to unseat Republican Rep. Nan Hayworht with a $200,000 “micro-targeted” direct mail, phone and online advertising campaign.
The group was co-foundd by Jonathan Soros (son of George) and two political strategists.
“Rep. Nan Hayworth exemplifies the problem with pay-to-play politics. She took in a quarter-million-dollars from the insurance industry while voting against equal coverage for women under the healthcare law,” said Ilyse Hogue, one of the group’s fonuders. “With records like that, it’s no wonder corruption in government ranks at the top of issues voters care about this election.”
Hayworth is among several Republican House members who the group is targeting, including Rep. Ann Marie Buerkle of central New York.
It’s the second anti-Hayworth ad to be released today. Earlier an AFSCME and SEIU TV ad was blasted out that accused her of being on the “tea party train.”
Hayworth herself has decried the independent effort to oust her, with a fundraising appeal over the weekend that said, “We could lose.”
