Frank Seddio Is Not Pleased
Brooklyn Democratic Chairman Frank Seddio, the successor to the throne once sat upon by Assemblyman Vito Lopez until his groping scandal blew up, is blasting Democratic Senator-elect Simcha Felder for siding with the GOP conference in Albany.
In a statement, Seddio called the move a “disgrace” and a “complete berayal of his consituents.”
Seddio, who was for a short time a judge, but resigned after he was investigated for political contributions, says Felder had a “moral obligation” to support the Senate Democrats.
“Every elected Democrat has an moral obligation to support the leadership of the party in the Legislature, but Felder has elected to betray that trust, not to mention the sacred trust of voters. It’s not too late for Felder to reconsider his options and considerable responsibilities. It is our hope he does. I would welcome Mr Felder to discuss his thinking with me and the executive committee.”
That Felder went to the Republican fold wasn’t pre-ordained, but it also was not much of a surprise.
Republicans did not help GOP Sen. David Storobin financially during his race and the so-called “super Jewish” district drawn by Republicans to Felder’s benefit.
Felder’s move gives Republicans control of 31 seats in the chamber. The results of two races in the Mohawk Valley and the Poughkeepsie area remain up in the air. If the GOP fails to win either of those races (Republican Sen. Stephen Saland is down by about 1,600 votes against Terry Gipson, while Democrat Cecilia Tkaczyk leads George Amedore by 139), then it would need at least one member of the Independent Democratic Conference to back the GOP leadership.
