A meeting of the state Thruway Authority’s leadership that may have included the approval of a 45 percent toll hike on commercial trucks has been cancelled – the second time in two weeks that the meeting was postponed.

The Thruway Authority decided to quietly cancel the meeting around 9 p.m. last night. No news release was sent out to announce the decision, but a few organizations were given a heads up to make sure they didn’t show up to cover the event as scheduled.

The first meeting in which the toll hikes may have been approved, scheduled for Nov. 9, was cancelled at around noon the day the meeting was to take place in Rockland County.

Today’s cancelled meeting was scheduled for 11:30 a.m. at the authority’s headquarters `Albany.

Business advocates opposed to the potential hike had railed against holding the meeting on a Friday in Rockland County, claiming that the authority was trying to bury the increase as the press and public are focused on the aftermath of Superstorm Sandy.

But today’s development likely won’t alleviate their concerns.

Last night on the show, Liz sat down with Brian Sampson of Unshackle Upstate, who says the potential hike adds to more uncertainty for businesses trying to grow in the state.
