With Toll Hike Looming, Thruway Authority Postpones Meeting
The state Thruway Authority, which is considering a 45 percent toll hike on heavy trucks, abruptly canceled its meeting scheduled for later this afternoon.
Business groups and lawmakers opposed to the hike increase warned earlier that the meeting, set to be held in Rockland County, would be used to approve the toll increase while the public and the media’s attention was diverted by the recovery effort for Superstorm Sandy.
There was no agenda for the meeting and state officials gave no indicate the proposed hike, which Gov. Andrew Cuomo has said is needed to keep the authority’s credit rating solid, would be discussed or voted on.
But now the Thruway Authority will hold the meeting on Tuesday at 11:30, which will certainly give whatever decision is made (if any) more scrutiny.
