Biz Groups Optimistic On Majority Coalition
Business groups weighed in on the plan to form a “majority coalition” in the state Senate, sounding a hopeful note that the new coalition of the IDC and Senate Republicans would provide stability in state government.
From the Rochester-based Unshackle Upste:
“Unshackle Upstate is dedicated to improving the Upstate economy. A legislator’s party affiliation is of no concern to us, so long as they are committed to making Upstate communities better places to live, work and raise a family,” said Brian Sampson, executive director of Unshackle Upstate.
“We look forward to working with the Senate Majority Coalition to ensure that the state enacts a fiscally responsible state budget, reduces unfunded mandates on local governments and makes New York a better place to run a business and put people to work. We are unconcerned with how these goals are accomplished, and look forward to working with all 213 legislators and Gov. Cuomo when the legislature returns to session in January.”
And from the Business Council, the state’s largest business lobby:
“The Business Council is encouraged by the creation of a bipartisan governance model that will avoid the dysfunction the Senate experienced in 2009 and 2010,” said Heather Briccetti, president and CEO of The Business Council of New York State, Inc. “The power-sharing deal reached by the IDC and Senate Republicans reflects a commitment to support Governor Cuomo’s fiscal reform agenda. Only by controlling spending and holding the line on taxes can New York stay on the path to economic stability.”
